About Our Custom Forgings
Western Forge & Flange supports distributors, fabricators, end-users, and procurement teams with open die forging built around your exact specifications — from rough forgings and prototypes to specialty parts and finished components.
All of our jobs use U.S.-sourced or DFARS-compliant materials, and our internal quality control process ensures that tight tolerances and unusual geometries don’t come at the cost of turnaround time. We forge single-run and multi-run shapes up to 2,500 pounds — reach out when you need a component engineered to perform under real operating pressure, stress, or extreme temperature, not just clear a spec sheet.

FAQs About Custom Forging
Here are the answers to some frequently asked questions about custom forging applications:
Custom forging is the manufacturing process of shaping metal using localized compressive forces. The process involves combining intense heat and heavy pressure from a forge hammer or press to mold raw material into unique, highly durable components. Unlike closed die forging, cold forging, hand-forged methods, or standard die forging, open die custom forging allows for endless geometric flexibility. This hot forging process produces parts with refined internal grain structures, resulting in superior strength, toughness, and structural reliability for demanding industrial applications.
Custom forgings are the go-to choice when standard off-the-shelf components lack the strength, dimensions, or specialized material properties required for severe environments. Common use cases include engineered products, custom valve bodies, and structural aerospace or nuclear sub-assemblies.
You can access our technical library or review detailed material specification charts in our online resource hub. For direct technical support, consult with our engineering team to review drawings, evaluate machining allowances, and select optimal materials for your specific project.
